UWL Baseball Begins Season Today

The UWL Eagle baseball team kicks off their 2010 season today against the #1 ranked D-III team in the country.  This normally isn’t a headline story, but due to the fact that this season almost didn’t happen, it is now.

During the summer of 2009 it was announced the UWL was doing away with baseball and tennis, but both groups rallied and found a way to make this 2010 season happen.  At the same time, the futures of both programs still remain in limbo.

The baseball program needs to raise in the neighborhood of $175,000 by May 1 to sustain their efforts and, to this point, has raised roughly $70,000.

Want to help?  Join the La Crosse Area Hot Stove League on the opening day of the 2010 MLB Season – Monday, April 5 – for an Opening Day Party and make a donation.  The Hot Stove League, who has been meeting all winter, is donating all of the funds that they raise through memberships and “Diamond Dollars” directly to the UWL Baseball program.  The Opening Day Party will be held at LumberJack’s Saloon, inside of the Stoney Creek Inn (Onalaska), on April 5 beginning at 5:00 p.m. in conjunction with La Crosse’s only all-baseball radio talk show, “Talkin’ Baseball with the Loggers”.
